Introduction

Where are you going?

“If you don’t know where you are going, you’ll end up someplace else.”~Yogi Berra
I found that quote yesterday while I was looking to add to my growing list of thought provoking sayings.   Such a simple statement by a man noted for his unconventional wisdom, but think about what it says –  it says a lot!
Most of my working at a job career, I really didn’t have a vision of what I wanted to do, but out of nowhere I remember deciding I wanted to live near Colorado Springs. (I was living in my native Massachusetts at the time)  I was single and young, and went so far as to submit my resume to companies out there, but no one responded and that dream faded into the background.  Then, 10 years later, having advanced in the same company, I was given the opportunity to transfer there.  I lived in the mountains west of the Springs for 13 years, and though I don’t live there now, it was to me the most beautiful place I have ever lived.  Somehow, because I put that true desire out in the universe, I was able to somehow manifest that desire into reality.
Six years ago, my husband and I started to think about retiring when we turned 55.  Steve really wanted to experience living outside of the US, I wanted to live back in the mountains in a moderate climate.  Through lots of research we decided to investigate Costa Rica.  We were in the planning stages of booking our first visit there in 2003, in fact had already come up with an itinerary with a travel agent, when Steve’s boss refused to give him 2 weeks off in succession.   We were disappointed, but we decided to stay updated on developments down there mostly by subscribing to a few yahoo groups and other websites.   We turned 55 at the end of 2008, right after our economy tanked.  By that time, Steve had already been laid off from his job and I had already committed to leaving mine.  We were scared, after all this was no time to not have a steady income, but we decided to take a leap of faith and I’m happy to tell you we made the right decision.
Over those 6 years of following various websites, I repeatedly was drawn to a particular rental home.   When we decided (after our 12 day trip last year) to go back and rent something for one month, we had narrowed down our options to two areas, Atenas and Grecia.  The rental I had repeatedly gone back to is located in Grecia, but the deal breaker was that there was no internet there.   We found a nice one bedroom in the same town and contacted the owner.  It was much smaller than the one I liked, but it had high speed internet, and the price was right!  We contacted the owner and arranged a time that we would be there and I sent our deposit in.  Lo and behold, he emailed to tell me that he made a scheduling mistake, but he also took care of a neighbor’s place and would I like to rent that one for the same price?  You already know what I’m going to tell you… of course it was THE house.  I asked him about the internet situation and he informed me that, although there was no cable TV, he just installed a router for wireless access both in and outside the home.  No TV reception, but a flat screen TV and a DVD player. Not to mention, 3 bedrooms which is allowing us to have some friends meet us down there.  Once again, I was able to manifest my true desire into reality!
After going to my seminar last month, this notion of getting in touch with your real self was reinforced. I have come back from that renewed and energized.  I am now putting that energy into manifesting my online business into something far beyond what I’ve been able to accomplish in the past.
So, where are you going?  I’d really like to hear from you!   If you don’t know, take some time, find a peaceful and quiet location, and let your mind drift.  If you ask the universe from within yourself  (your subconscious mind), the answer will come, just be ready to listen!
I’ve added some new links to the Costa Rica section, so feel free to check them out :-)
Pura Vida,

Social Networking – heads up

A cautionary tale about social networking

I’m not exactly sure what’s been happening recently, but lately, out of the blue, I have been approached several times both on Yahoo Messenger and Facebook by individuals wanting to be my friend.   Well of course, being in network marketing, I want to connect with as many people as possible, right?

One individual on Facebook that I added as a friend immediately started to harrass me in a chat about being broke and needing help.  This was a perfect stranger!  On Yahoo Messenger, someone engaged me in a conversation and although he had started to gain my trust, since I didn’t know him,  I checked his profile & saw that his profile was blank.   Most network marketers will, at a minimum have a website you  can check out. He kept asking me for my cell phone number so he could call me, which I refused to provide, but told him he could find out more about me by going to my blog.  I started asking questions, like “How did you find me on Yahoo Messenger?”  His answer gave him away (it was impossible that he found me where he claimed) and I decided to extricate myself from the situation as gracefully as possible.  This individual (tried) used emotional triggers to keep me engaged by telling me he had no family other than his elderly grandmother, was in school, needed food, life was hard etc… I told him I couldn’t help him and he got more insistent.  Long story short, I reported him as spam, have added him to my ignore list and am moving on. My main point in sharing this information is not to scare you out of making new contacts; just be smart about it.  On your social networking profile, if in fact you are a network marketer or business person of some kind, make sure you provide that information along with a link to your website.    Don’t  share information that can’t easily be found publicly on the web.  Remember, network marketing is about building relationships based on Know, Like, and Trust.  Also remember that con artists know this too, and are masters of the game!   I’d love to get some feedback on this topic, so please feel free to comment! Have fun, make lots of new friends, and be safe! Deb
